I came to school over the weekend to check on the ants
when I came they were moving very slow and a huge pile
of dead ones!! I was so sad and worried about what to do!
I had read the direction very careful and it specifically said
DO NOT over feed, but it doesn't seem like they are eating the
"ant chow" that it came with them. I figured ants will eat anything
and I happened to have some cheerios with me. I broke them into
super tiny pieces and also added water to the habitat.
YAY!! Today when I came in, tunnels have been started and
all the "dead" ants buried!
What a relief!! I was SO worried about what
to tell the class. Everyone is enjoying the
Ant Farm so much. It is truly
fascinating to watch!
This is a picture of the checklist our class Entomologist fills out
Ella helping finish ur letter H from last week
Claire choosing her job
Then checking on the ants
I took all the insect/bug photos the class sent and we made it to
a matching game
JESUS TIME
Claire enjoys being the invocation leader
and she knows all the words to it as well
I showed the children this basket
I told them I had a surprise in it
I asked them to guess what they thought was inside
Then I showed them.... It is a baby!!! Claire was very
interested in the baby!
I asked the children if they had a guesses of a bible story
that talked about a baby boy
in a basket...
Tristan guessed it
MOSES
Second Steps
We looked at the face of this boy, Ethan
I asked how the children thought he was feeling
Surprised!
I then asked the children to tell me about a time they may have
felt surprised!
Our Entomologist, going on a Bug Hunt!
Everyone had a vest, hat and a little plastic jar to collect bugs in
We talked about if we find live bugs we can put them in our jars
to "study" them but then we need to release back into their natural habitat
but if we find dead bugs we can bing them inside to study
So much excitement!
The hats didn't fit on some of the girls with ponies or buns
As soon as we came outside, Aiden spotted a dead cricket
He started to pick it up with his hands but then decided he didnt
like the way it felt. I ran in for some tweezers, which made it much easier to
collect the bugs!
Everyone was SO SO interested in finding bugs!
So happy!
The children spent the entire outside time, exploring for bugs!
We turned over rocks and stepping stones
We found lots underneath those items
Carly wasn't afraid to pick up any critter and would say,
"Here little buddy!"
STORY TIME
Matthew was our weather helper
Tristan, our Entomologist
He then came over and stood in front of the class to share
his findings..... The ants are digging tunnels
Ella asked to also be our prayer leader since no one chose it today
The she was our snack manager
SNACK TIME
we decided to eat inside since it was
getting a little dark and SO windy!
Carly, who was also "sit by the teacher"job got to help teach the letters to the class
The person who choosing "sit by the teacher" job gets to be the teacher assistant
and use the special pointer!
As they point, he/she can either tell the letters to the class
or call on someone to identify the letters
Handwriting Without Tears
Mystery Bag
I showed 4 items
Ape, Apple, Airplane and Ant
Today's letter is A
Center Time
Claire was excited to go to Dramatic Play
Digging for bugs/insects
Just relaxing
Carly and Brody working in the writing center
WOW!! Great Work Brody! He wrote out his Alphabet all
by himself!!
Claire and Brody played with trains for a long time
Aiden is our artist of the week
We cleaned up and then watched a video from a man who worked at a
butterfly house in Utah. This entomologist taught us about building
a habitat. He gave us some ideas on how to build a habitat for a roly poly
and maybe got the children thinking on what they want to do for our BUG ZOO!
We did YOGA and Exercises together at the end of the day
Tree Pose
Jumping Jacks
Then we had a few minutes at the end after prayer to play a game
The children really love this..... I wish I had more of these plastic bowls from
discovery kids..... but I wrote numbers on each bowl. Then the children close their eyes while I hide a red bean bag under one of the bowls. As they guess, I give clues.
For example, if someone guessed, 3, I would say, " No, but it is under a bowl lower(smaller) than the number 3". WOW!!! They did such a good job. We have played this several times, but today, they really knew what to do. If anyone comes across any of these Discovery Toy (Flip Flop Face bean bag toss) bowls, I would love to have another set. I know the kids could use more of a challenge and go to a higher number than just 6!
