It was wonderful to be back together again after Thanksgiving break! The children were happy to see each other and were excited to begin our Advent activities!
Bean Bags
We didn't play outside today but danced to several songs and played a few bean bag games to get us moving!
Dancing around the classroom.
Advent is Here!
We talked about God's people being told by the prophets and through God's word that a Messiah would be born to a young girl in the town of Bethlehem. We also lit the first candle on our Advent wreath and sang "Light One Candle" and did our first Advent devotional. The invocation leader will add a sticker to our "Silent Night, Holy Night" devotional each day. We will use the stickers to count the days of December until the celebration of Jesus' birth.
Our Advent devotional.
Angel on Assignment
We read the book "Angel on Assignment" and the children were introduced to our class room angel who will move to a different spot in our classroom each day. The book tells of the importance of angels in our life and how they have appeared in the Bible... appearing to Mary, coming to Joseph in a dream, appearing to the shepherds in the field when Jesus was born, and at the tomb when Jesus rose from the grave. The book also encourages us to be like angels by helping our family and friends and doing good deeds for others.
Making Our Own Angels
Several friends made their own angels. I traced their hands to make the wings.
Christmas Themed Housekeeping Area
I transformed our dramatic play area back to housekeeping but added some Christmas touches: hot chocolate station, cookie making, decorate a tree, birthday cake and Baby Jesus, supplies to wrap presents. It was a very popular center!!!!
It was so sweet to hear the kids sing "Happy Birthday" to Jesus!
Animal Habitats
These boys were busy sorting the animals by their habitats! So very creative, I love it!!
Levi Loses a Tooth!
Levi is the first friend in our classroom to lose a tooth. He added his name to the Lost Tooth Chart! Congratulations Levi!!!
Reading Christmas Books
Our book areas are stacked with new Christmas themed books and the kids dug right in!
