Play Dough

Play dough is fun and creative but it also develops fine motor skills, working those muscles needed to write. Play dough is a morning choice activity in our classroom.

 

Outdoor Fun

Another beautiful day for some fun in the sun on our environmental playground. Ask your child what he or she explored today?

Chapel

Mrs. Helmkamp led chapel in the Commons today. We sang our Theme Song of the Year: Be Strong and Courageous. Click on this link and view a video of the artist singing the song. Her name is Jennie Williamson and she is a Lutheran musician who has visited Zion in the past. Mrs. Helmkamp told us how God is like a rope, ready to help pull us up when we need him. All we have to do is look up for help, and He is there.

Harrison took up our offering and also carried our class cross to worship. The children did a fantastic job decorating it! Everyone in our class added square tiles to the mosaic design. We were the only class who had our classroom cross at worship today! Way to go class!

Color Mixing

I had the opportunity to work with a few more students at the teacher table with color mixing. Once everyone has been introduced to the activity it will become a free choice activity.

Reading Together

This class loves to read together! I captured a few photos of them reading in groups or by themselves! Visiting the library with your child and checking out some new books might be a fun thing to do together on this extended weekend.

Colors in God's Creation

Color Mixing

I introduced the students to color mixing at the science center today. We started with the three primary colors: red, yellow and blue and mixed the secondary colors: purple, orange and green. The children pictured below got to work with me today but everyone will get a turn within the next few days. I wanted to model how to pinch the pipette, how to not mix colors and how to make predictions. Everyone was so excited and wanted a turn. At this age it is so hard to wait!!!

Harrison chose to Read the book "White Rabbit's Color Book" which is about Color mixing.

 Jesus Time- Creation

We continued our study of Creation by reading the big book "This the World That God Made" by Martha Streufert Jander. The children joined in with the phrase that God said at the end of each day.. and it was good! God rested on the seventh day and it was good. Mrs. Koenen led us in a new song about the 7 days of creation.

Together Time

I took some candid photos of the children working together. My heart bursts when I see them playing together, cooperating with each other, using their imaginations and coming up with fabulous ideas. There was a lot of that today and it brought me so much joy!

I observed a group of children building on the playground during outside time. They were working and planning together. It was a donut shop and what you see them building here is the trash can! I couldn't love this more!

Aavya was reading it, retelling the story in her own words and the children who were gathered around her joined in on the "Go Away" part! They did this all on their own. These are those special moments.

Outdoor Fun

God is blessing us with some beautiful weather! Everyone had fun during our outside time and we discovered that one of the trees had webs in it!

		The locust tree with webs on the branches. We did a Google search and found out they were made from fall webworms, a fuzzy caterpillar that eat within the web

Snacktime

Snack time is the perfect opportunity to develop oral language ad have conversations with each other. The children are learning how to use manners by asking, "Could you please pass the milk?" And learning independence by pouring their milk or water into their glass independently. Mrs. Koenen and I are seeing less spills!
